Sri Lanka

So, I went to Sri Lanka, ostensibly, to gather material for some fiction I’m hoping to write. But while I was in Sri Lanka I became distracted by the troubling political situation and, before long, found myself interviewing all sorts of people and generally carrying on like a journalist.

In fact, I ended up writing a very sober op-ed column for The Seattle Times. The article was also reprinted in numerous venues in Sri Lanka, including: The Sunday Leader, Sri Lanka Guardian, Journalists for Democracy in Sri Lanka, TamilNet, and others.

    Thanks for writing:
Sri Lanka’s human-rights and free-speech problems need international attention, Seattle Times, Peter Mountford, The Seattle Times, 26 February 2010: ‘’Since the Sri Lankan press can’t speak up for itself, it’s the duty of the international press to speak on its behalf.’’

    Please write about this:

No funds to meet needs of nearly 200,000 Northern IDPs due to govt refusal to endorse 2010 action plan by UN OCHA

    Thanks
